The 2800 year old treasures which were by some archaeologists as rare and precious, like the objects in the grave of King Tut found in three cases that had been considered sealed and secured in the underground vault.
The Royal Tombs of Nimrud were first discovered in April 1989 by an expedition of the Iraqi Department of Antiquities and Heritage. The grave was located in the north-west palace of the ancient city Kalkhu (modern Nimrud city). The city was a Kalkhu capital of the Assyrian empire for over 150 years until King Sargon moved the capital to major Sharukin (modern Khorshabad) in 717 BC The city is located 4 miles southwest of the monastery of Mar Behnam Christian. The first excavation of this ancient site was conducted by a British missionary discovered 150 years ago many of the reliefs. Many ancient Assyrian tombs found in the past, but were all looted and stolen goods. Two remaining graves exist, one in Berlin and in its original location in the city of Assur. The sarcophagus in the chamber grave containing hundreds of items, including jewelry, vessels, jewelry, seals and other goods. The items displayed Syrian and Phoenician iconography apart from the central Assyrian art. Was one of the treasures:
